Fable
It showed creativity beyond belief, new ways to see fashion collections and the fact you cannot just press pause on an entire industry, not least one that is worth £1.1tn globally and employs 430 million people worldwide.
Now accelerated by the pandemic, designers continue to look at new ways to present fashion - perhaps more sustainable ways. This project focuses on moving away from the catwalk and presenting designs differently.
Project Outcome
In the "Fable" project, students explored innovative ways to present fashion collections, moving beyond traditional catwalk shows, which were disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Inspired by the fashion trend "Fable," rooted in fairy tales, folklore, and historical romance, students designed outfits reflecting magical escapism. They studied the "Théâtre de la Mode" movement, where fashion designers adapted during World War II, and applied similar creativity in a digital context. Students researched colours, prints, fabrics, and styling, designed miniature outfits, and used stop motion animation to showcase their creations. The project emphasised sustainable fashion presentation and storytelling through fantastical designs.
